December 2 Stripers Around
Beach Haven LBI Fishing Reports
Even though winter is quickly approaching, there are still hardy captains in the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association who are running successful charters for striped bass and tautog.
Captain Ray Lopez reports “great striper fishing” on a recent trip on the “Miss Liane” when he limited out with David Wentworth, DJ Wentworth, and Scott from Forked River along with George Mangone.
Captain Brett Taylor of “Reel Reaction Sportfishing” had Doug Wainwright of Wainwright’s Landscaping in Columbus out on an afternoon striped bass and tautog charter. He reports finding plenty of both species “close to home.” Another trip resulted in an 8-fish limit in about 40-minutes and then playing catch and release with fish to 34-inches, most on plastics and plugs. A stop on a piece of structure resulted with 20 short tautog and two keepers at 16-inches.
Captain Gary Dugan had a pair of top trips lately. One trip with some Philadelphia firefighters resulted in some beautiful striper fillets. Another trip resulted in a 6-man limit and throwbacks the rest of the trip.
Captain Dave on the “Benita J” had two great striper trips recently. He had a morning trip with the “college kids” on Thanksgiving break who limited out and were back at the dock and cleaned up by noon. Wish they were all this easy. The Cerelli charter limited out in 45 minutes and spent the next couple of hours playing catch and release. Captain Dave said they were back so early “the guys had to eat their Wawa sandwiches at the dock.”
