Captain George Finck Reef Ball

Over the past decade, the captains of the Beach Haven Charter fishing Association have been instrumental in improving the near shore artificial reefs to improve local fishing conditions.

Working hand in hand with the captains have been the youngsters involved in the Junior Mates Program.

The Association just announced that a new addition to the reef system, a reef ball in honor of Captain George Finck, who recently passed away. This particular reef ball was sponsored by Captain Carl Sheppard and his wife Carroll as a permanent memorial to Captain George.

Captain Carl Sheppard is one of the founding captains of the BHCFA and former owner of the boat “Star Fish.”

Captain George Finck operated the fishing boat “Spare Time” and was an active captain in the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association. He was a skilled captain and a well-liked person in the fishing community. After retiring, Captain George continued on as an honorary member of the BHCFA.

These reef balls are concrete structures that are sunk on the reefs. They quickly attract marine growth and creatures which serve to attract game fish.
