Week 5 – BHCFA Junior Mate Training Program
As we move into Week 5 of the BHCFA Junior Mate Training Program, we continue our focus on developing practical skills. Scheduled for Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 7 PM, we will meet again at the Beach Haven Marlin & Tuna Club.
New Junior Mates will participate in Fire Fighting training – a critical skill to ensure safety while on the boat. They will also be introduced to the concept and importance of Reef Building – a vital aspect of sustainable fishing that encourages the development of aquatic habitats.
For Returning Junior Mates, alongside the Fire Fighting training, there will be a focus on Gaffing and Leading. Both these skills are important for securing and bringing in a catch, thus providing a more efficient and safe fishing experience.
Each session will include a hands-on practice, enabling Mates to cement these techniques. Our consistent Knot Tying practice will follow, promoting the continued development of this core skill.
We will conclude with a group discussion, providing a space for participants to share their learnings, experiences, and ask any questions. For additional inquiries, Capt. Max Goldman and Capt. Nick Perello are available to help. Week 6 promises to be packed with learning, ensuring that our Mates are becoming more proficient with each session!
