The 2022 class of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association’s Junior Mates Program began on Thursday, June 30, with a large group of attentive youngsters getting right into the learning process.
The group consists of new budding mates along with a solid number of returning Junior Mates. The first class was broken into two classes. The new junior mates spent time with Captain Max Goldman working on setting the proper drag pressure on fishing reels along with reel maintenance. The other group was with Captain Nick Perello learning about offshore rigging.
The junior Mates classes are held during the summer at the Beach Haven Marlin and Tuna Club in Beach Haven. The next class will be held on Thursday, July 7 starting at 7pm. All junior mates will focus on proper fish handling, netting, and leader tying along with instruction on knots. This evening session will be a hands-on class.
Any youngsters who will be 13 years of age by August 1interested in becoming part of the Junior Mates Program can call Captain Nick Perello at 609-678-76141 to see if there are any openings in the class.
