Week 4 – BHCFA Junior Mate Training Program
In Week 4 of the BHCFA Junior Mate Training Program, we delve deeper into the intricate world of fishing. This session, scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2024, will begin an hour earlier, at 6 PM, at the Beach Haven Marlin & Tuna Club.
Our new Junior Mates will learn the vital task of rod and reel maintenance, ensuring that our fishing gear stays in optimal condition. We’ll also discuss how to properly set the drag on a fishing reel – a crucial step to efficiently battling and landing fish. The hands-on approach will continue with everyone getting the chance to apply what they’ve learned.
**Guest Presenter: Don Parr from Canyon Reels**
Meanwhile, returning Junior Mates will focus on the on-shore preparations necessary for successful offshore charters. Understanding what goes into the planning and execution of these exciting expeditions is vital for every experienced crew member. Returning mates will also learn the art of hollow core splicing.
